To all recent STA-21 selects:
Congratulations on your acceptance in the STA-21 Program. Also, thanks for your inquiry into the University of Florida NROTC Unit, “the Fighting Gator Battalion”. Our unit currently has 7 of the best Officer Candidates in the STA-21 Program. We always welcome fleet experience to aid to the cohesion of our unit.
I understand that you are in a time crunch to get a letter of early acceptance in the colleges of your choice. I am here to help you with that process.
First, verify you meet the transfer requirements for the University of Florida. UF currently only accepts transfer students with an AA degree (no lower division transfer students beginning Fall 2009). Check you meet the common prerequisites for your anticipated degree program at this website: http://facts23.facts.org/navigation/detail_ext/cpp_intro.do?pageId=070505. Ensure you also meet the prerequisites listed on the admissions website: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/trqualifying.html. If you only have AP and dual enrollment credit from high school, then you will be allowed one opportunity to apply to UF as a freshman despite your accumulated credits. If you don’t have an AA degree, you will probably have to petition the committee of your intended department for reconsideration, which is where the template letter below is vital. Applications for lower-level students will be reviewed by the Admissions Office, freshman applicants will be notified of acceptance mid-February. Upper-division transfer applications will be screened by Admissions and forwarded to the respective department for decision.
Then, get an application completed at the admissions website for the coming Fall term (w/ the application fee paid… the application does not go through until the fee is paid). Most departments have rolling admissions for transfer students, so GET YOUR APPLICATION IN EARLY. After a completed application, I should be able to help you with any potential admissions problems. The University of Florida has very high admissions standards, as it approaches its goal of being one of the top 10 public institutions in the country. As you will see in your admissions process, universities that are easier to get into won’t have the University of Florida’s credentials. However, fear not, those OC’s who have worked diligently with me through this process have been accepted into UF and are now receiving one of the best educations in the country (and enjoying some great sports in a great atmosphere here in Central Florida).
I have generated a template letter for you to fill out because you require an admissions response much sooner than the normal applicant. Download the template letter here. Fill it out and email it back to me as an attachment. The instructions are at the end of the document.
Also, when you email me please write the following in the body of your email:
In addition, if you have not filled out a 3-yr degree plan for STA-21, just fill this out according to the degree plan curriculum for your intended major on the UF website. Download a blank 4 year degree plan here. Remember, this must be signed by a UF academic advisor from your intended college and then submitted to STA-21 headquarters. Here is a starting point for finding an academic advisor: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/contacts.html.
Reply or write any time if you have any questions. Go Gators!!!
